San Francisco > San Francisco Hotels > Book this hotelAnglo Americano hotel description>>
Ok, this hotel isn't a 4 star but who cares... the location is brilliant and its very cheap (we paid 90 Euro for a twin room in January). True the staff were a bit cold but that is just a Roman trait - I prefer sincerity and if people are honest with me then that's just fine. Attractions only steps away include a church made up almost entirely of bones... see the crypt of the Capuchin Monks piazza barberini for a gruesome but unforgettable experience!
Arriving at this hotel for our honeymoon we were rudely told by 2 staff that they had accidently only booked a single room for us to stay in and if we wanted to stay there we would have to pay extra money. After them yelling at us we thought we had no other choice but to pay the extra money so we slept there for 1 night but 1 was enough. The walls where paper thin hearing EVERYTHING in the 4 rooms surrounding you, the rooms were dull, hot and very small with flooding bathroom. Next morning we went looking for another hotel. We stayed at HOTEL CECIL two streets away where we would recommend anyone to stay. the rooms were big with a nice view and soundproofed and staff go out of there way to ensure a pleasant stay. Please dont stay at Anglo Americano you will regret it!
I read all the bad reviews before booking this hotel. I figured, how bad can it be for just 1 night stay? All I cared was the location, which was very good. Do yourself a favor and do not go to this hotel. It's in terrible shape, really ugly, dirty and depressing dark old stinky rooms. (Way overpriced!) The real problem was with the receptionist/front desk person (a middle aged men with big mustache). I was meeting up a friend in Rome, that was also visitng that city and when came to the hotel to see me, the front desk guy threatened us that he will call Police (I had no idea why). He was extremely rude and was screaming asking if this person has a passport. I continued to be nice and said off course he does, he is not a criminal for wanting to visit me. Stll yelling, he advised me that I am not allowed to have any quests, since I booked only for one person and if I want to talk to him, I would have to take it outside. He made me pay additional $50 euro to have him come up to my room. It was a horrible experience. The phone wasn't working either. For the amount of money it costs, there are a lot of different hotels available. |
