Hotel Daniela hotel description>>

Stolen camera and phone - stay away
Reviewer: martinsfsu@netzero.com, Los Angeles, CA

Generally, I found the hotel clean and nice. The area is not as bad as some of the reviews have stated and the hotel staff is fairly nice. I visited during the off season in January. However, I must warn potential guests that my digital camera and cell phone were stolen from my room within one day of checking in. The total amount lost is about $500. I notified various people working the front desk, but there was little they could do. There for, I find the security and safety at this hotel questionable, and would warn people to book a room elsewhere.

Be realistic...

OK...we stayed here during the Easter season 2003. This was a high tourist time of year. A couple of things you have to remember when you travel in Europe...rooms are small, pipes are old, Europeans are not as clean as most Americans. For the gentleman who had the pipe noise, you should have known this. In winter time, when old pipes heat up, they make noise. Not sure why you were so surprised. Clearly Hotel Daniela is a smaller older hotel. I think they could have cleaned more thoroughly. My biggest issue is the beds. The rooms are small so I understand that the beds aren't the largest, but it's is time to invest in newer mattresses and newer linens. Aside from that, it is in a quiet part of town, a bit far to walk to the main tourist sights, but the front desk was happy to call us a taxi every morning. We walked home most nights without incident. Or we would take a taxi. It's not in a bad location...in fact, it's fairly close to Santa Maria Maggiore. Since we were rarely in the hotel except to sleelp, I'd say it served it's purpose...not extremely well since the beds are my main complaint...but I didn't really expect glamour since I wasn't in a 4 or 5 star hotel. You just have to be realistic when you travel in Europe. You have maps...you know where you are staying and you know if you stay in a 3 star hotel, it's chancy. 2 you know is bad and 4 you know is good. 3 is the iffy number. Would I stay here again, probably not, but I wasn't surprised. You just have to remember to be realistic.

stay away!

Hotel Daniela was horrible! We got a good package deal with Expedia for hotel and airfare, so we went with it without knowing. It's in a not-so-nice area of town... bums sleeping on the street... a little isolated and out of the way, very dirty. We had a terrifying walk home at night -- something I wouldn't recommend -- with people following us, no streelights, etc., and this is coming from someone who's been to New York city alone. The staff was extremely rude to us. We went in Nov. 02 also, and there was NO phone service in our rooms. The second day at breakfast there was a cockroach on the table next to us. The last day they lost our key, which you're required to hand in when coming and going (common in Europe) and gave us an extra but refused to give us a different room and claimed they were sure the maid had it. Luckily our things were still in the room and we were able to pile furniture in front of the door that night, our last in Rome and at that hotel, thankfully.
