Hotel Eliseo hotel description>>

Actually a pretty decent hotel
Reviewer: Rome visitor, Washington, DC

We booked this hotel as part of an Expedia package based on its excellent location, but were very apprehensive! It turned out just fine. We were upgraded to a suite, somewhat strangely shaped, for no extra cost. The rooms were smallish but perfectly comfortable, and beds were fine. It is a little worn around the edges, maybe a little old-fashioned. Marble bathrooms up to date and quite clean. Service was good, anxious to please and very friendly. View from the rooftop breakfast room cannot be beat - Villa Borghese to the north, St. Peter's dome to the west. You can walk to the Spanish steps in about ten minutes downhill; there is a Metro tunnel with escalators that proves helpful after a day slogging the city. Breakfasts were excellent - fruit, ham, cereal, the works.

So disappointed with the hotel, it is marked as a 4 star hotel on Expedia but it was more of a 2 star if that. The rooms were very small, the bed was so uncomfortable and the mattress seemed about 20 years old. The bathroom was very grubby and the shower pointed at the wall so you were lucky to get wet. The furniure needed updating as the wardrobe was falling apart, the rest of the furniture had paint peeling and the walls were no better.

Looks like the hotel was nice... several years ago. A beautiful old building that was subjected to "updating" maybe late 80s and not maintained much since. Everything was verging on decrepit, from the red carpet desperately in need of a shampoo to the grafitti on the exterior and broken stonework. Air conditioning barely worked, and the street was too loud to open windows at night AND sleep. Breakfast on the roof was the high point- a nice view of Borghese gardens and the cool-looking "hot air balloon". Not all that convenient to any of the tourist sights or even local nightlife.
