San Francisco > San Francisco Hotels > Book this hotelPace Helvezia hotel description>>
We stayed at this hotel for two nights over a long weekend in January 2004. You can walk to any of the major sights from here, but the hotel room smelt smoky (even though it was a non-smoking room), the breakfast was lack-lustre and the public rooms downstairs largely empty. However, the reception staff were extremely helpful and polite.
I stayed in this hotel with my wife and two children (9 and 12 years old) for a total of four nights over Christmas 2003. The location of the hotel is perfect. You are at walking distance from Piazza Venezia, the Capitol, the Forum etc., and many other interesting places can easily be reached by bus in not more than 15 minutes. We had a fairly large room, nicely decorated, with a new and very clean bathroom, an old television set (offering CNN as the only foreign TV station) and fairly comfortable beds. Breakfast was o.k., but not impressive. There was quite a lot of traffic noise coming from the street day and night indeed, which is certainly a problem for some people (Only after booking we had asked for a room at the back side, but were told that the family rooms are all located at the front side.). You should definitely try to get confirmation for a room at the backside of the hotel at the time of booking! There is no restaurant in the hotel, but there are restaurants in walking distance. Also to be noted: Not all the people working at the reception are friendly. But on balance, the hotel is rather good value for money.
This hotel is centrally located and you can walk to nearly all the popular attractions. However, it is right on a main street, and we had a very difficult time sleeping the whole five days we were there due to the traffic noise, which seemed to never stop! The rooftop deck was a nice place to sit and drink wine and watch the sun set. |
